The Gluten Free Diet Needs a Definition Overhaul

The Term Gluten is Evolving as More & More Research is Done

I was recently invited to speak about gluten and food allergies on Fox News.  In the interview, I discuss some of the newer research pertaining to gluten sensitivity.  Additionally, I discuss how many legumes (soy, peanuts, etc) can create the same type of damage as gluten.  I also referred to a new research study has identified 2  forms of corn gluten that trigger an immune response in patients with gluten sensitivity.  You can watch the video below:

About the new study on corn maize (gluten)

Two forms of corn gluten were found to stimulate an immune reaction is patients with gluten intolerance.  In a published report, the scientists stated:

some maize prolamins (zeins) contain amino acid sequences that resemble the wheat gluten immunodominant peptides…Results concur to indicate that relative abundance of these zeins, along with factors affecting their resistance to proteolysis, may be of paramount clinical relevance, and the use of maize in the formulation and preparation of gluten-free foods must be reevaluated in some cases of celiac disease.

This is not the first research study that has identified corn glutens as detrimental.  It is just the most recent.

Gluten Free Food Industry Needs To Make Changes

Gluten free substitute products are full of corn and corn byproducts.  For a comprehensive list of corn based ingredients go here <<< Aside from containing a detrimental form of gluten, corn is not a healthy staple food.  As a matter of fact, the U.S. government banned the sale of processed corn products in 1943 because they induce B-vitamin deficiency disease.  Today, this grain must be fortified with synthetic B-vitamins before being sold.  Does that sound healthy to you?

Glutenology Meeting – Dr. Peter Osborne Unveils Gluten Free Warrior Shirts

Monday, September 26th, 2011

We had a fabulous TRUE gluten free meeting this weekend. The topic?  How gluten sensitivity causes hormone imbalance and contributes to disease.  We talked about:

More than $2000 dollars worth of prizes were given away, including 2 Spectracell vitamin and mineral blood tests, an Elisa Act allergy test (measures 315 food, chemical, and environmental toxin reactions), multiple bottles of gluten free multivitamins, and more.

One of our guests, Kathryn, flew in from Chicago to make the meeting. That’s me and Kathryn to the right. You can also see in this picture the front of the new Gluten Free Warrior T-Shirts. That’s right. It is official, the Gluten Free Warrior shirts have been finalized. Thanks everyone for providing us feedback to get this done.

We also had special guest, Lynn Clark, from Special Treats Gourmet. She served up organic, TRUE gluten free delicacies. I have to say, they were delicious. Lynn provides cooking classes, grocery store training, and education for those trying to improve their health. You can check out her website at www.specialtreatsgourmet.com

As usual we also had a beautiful lay out of TRUE gluten free foods. Multiple types of salad, fruits, deliciously prepared beef and fish dishes to name a few. We will be posting these new recipes to our forum section this week.

I have to say, if you missed this meeting, you missed one of the best meetings ever put on by Gluten Free Society. The information, food, and social ambiance were the best yet.

Not to worry, if you are a member, we will be posting the full meeting video this week.

Wishing you excellent health,

Dr. Osborne – The Gluten Free Warrior

P.S.

I almost forgot to show you the back of the new shirts.  After posting a prototype shirt 2 weeks ago, we took everyone’s feedback to finalize the design.  The most requested feature?  The Gluten Hydra.

Emergency Alert: FDA Attempting to Ban Natural Supplements

Monday, September 19th, 2011

If you take supplements as part of your approach to maintain good health or as part of your approach to naturally treat different health conditions, you should be warned that the FDA is getting ready to try and intervene with your ability to do so.

It appears that the FDA is using the banner of “consumer protection” to prevent you from buying already proven and time tested vitamin, mineral, and herbal supplements.  A similar approach was taken when ephedra was banned by the FDA.  This attack on your right to natural agents stands to greatly benefit the pharmaceutical industry.  It would serve to turn commonly used supplements into prescription medications.

Why is This Dangerous for Your Health?

The vast majority of physicians in the U.S. have no nutritional back ground, making them unqualified to be the leaders on this issue.  How many times have you heard your doctor talk down to you when you brought up supplements at a visit?  Point being, do you really want to have to rely on your primary care doctor to have access to omega 3 supplements?

Many medications (both prescription and over the counter) cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  For example, your doctor commonly prescribes cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) and blood pressure lowering drugs.  The chemicals interfere with your body’s ability to produce the vital nutrient coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).  CoQ10 deficiency causes elevations in blood pressure, muscle weakness, muscle pain, liver damage, and congestive heart failure.  If the FDA is successful in taking away your ability to buy supplements, you would not be able to proactively address these issues.  Think about it…can you recall the last time your doctor actually made a recommendation about a supplement to counter balance the negative nutritional side effects?

What can you do?

Contact your local representative now.  I have provided a link below for you.  Let them know that you are concerned about this attack on your personal freedom to maintain your health without government intervention.
